We don't have fireflies here, but I sure remember the good times we had
catching them as kids, when we would visit my Aunt and Uncle back east.
It seems to me that there has been a significant increase in all bugs this
year! I stopped turning on my porch lights at night because literally
hundreds of them would be swarming the area in which the lights were on,
making it difficult to even get by them without risking swallowing one.
Even the ants this year, my God! Generally I live and let live, but they have
been awful this year. I have never had ants in the house, yet three times
this year I've found them going for Chips dog bowl in the kitchen...grrrrrrr!
Yesterday I was planting some Lantana in an oak barrel by my Rose arbor in the
back yard. Literally 100's of 1000's of ants came swarming out of the center
of the oak barrel. I couldn't plant anything there till I got rid of them.
Very strange indeed, maybe it's because it did not get that cold here this
last winter....

The ones I swallow I don't mind. It's the ones I snort that annoy me!
