a slug story

I was having a little gloatfest Saturday evening, having walked around my garden and observed the effects of a new slug product.

In the places where I'd used this product (Escar-Go!), the plants had regained their strength and were putting out new leaves and looking strong and healthy. Since I hadn't used it everywhere, I was carrying a plastic bag and a trowel with me. In places where I hadn't sprinkled Escar-Go! I was placing the slugs in a bag with the trowel. My little black cat Mitzi, who is the best little gardening companion, was on the hunt with me. After gathering about 20 slugs, I threw the plastic bag away in the trash. Sprinkled Escar-Go! around the remaining spots and that was the end of the gardening day.

Went to bed that evening, happy happy happy. Free of slugs. Free at last. There is a solution. Yippee, the world is a brighter place.

Awoke the next morning and looked across the bed (spouse is away on business) to see a slug coming at me. He was about two feet away. Was it a bad dream? No!

However did this slug get in my bed?! Eeek. I shoved him on a magazine subscription card and threw him in the trash.

I was befuddled. Could the slug have gotten in my hair as I worked through some vines? Or was he transported from a tree leaf as I walked under the branches, brushing the leaves with my hair? Eeeek, what a horrid thought.

Then I looked at the end of the bed to see a little curled up ball of black fur. The Nancy Drew in me took over. I examined the slug trail. Hmmm. It came from the other side of the bed. Kitty paw prints, very faint. Little crushed leaves and kitty fur along the way.

Mystery solved! I had missed a slug and she had located it in the night and brought it in the house for me. I guess she figured that if I was gathering them in a bag they must be pretty valuable.

Now all of a sudden this repulsive incident had been transformed into something quite endearing.

Hi Cher,

What a cute story!!! Your cat was doing her best to "love" you! But not
an appreciated present, I'm sure. We had a great laugh when we read
this.
