You know, it must be like tomatos -- the ones grown for commercial markets
are almost always alwful while those grown on smaller or local farms are
usually great (in season, of course). Otherwise, in this household, it's
plum or grape/cherry tomatos from October through July, til the local ones
(or mine) are in again (sigh), and we can indulge in one of our favorite
suppers - thick slice of ripe tomato, a hefty slice of fresh mozzerella,
shredded fresh basil leaves, a great olive oil, a sprinke of salt and ground
pepper, good crusty italian bread. We call it cold pizza.

list I belong to, and the Red Delicious has been condemned. I think the
supermarket variety is truly awful, bitter and mealy, but I seem to remember
somone on this list (George?) saying that in the past home grown red
delicious were very good. Can anyone confirm my recollection?
