Hi all,

This year I'm planting some Flame Grass. Just to try something =
different. :-)

Has anyone grown it? Did you like it? Any problems? etc.?

Does starting it last year count? If so....

Yes, I like it...and it's settled into place well and stayed reasonably
upright until spring, but you probably get more wind in one wintery
month than I'll see all winter long.

Please note that it was just dark green for most of the growing season.
I saw no red nor purplish tones until autumn...it turned red for two
weeks then settled into wintery tones of orangish brown. Also...it's a
miscanthus, which aren't good plants for places near wetland areas,
where they turn into thugs.

I finally received my first catalog of the year!! I saw some beautiful
ornamental grass called "Flame Grass" or Miscanthus sinensis
purpurascens. Does anyone have any they'd like to share? Looking for
some Pompas grass and wisteria as well. Trade or SASE.
Thanks=20

I have a wisteria that I can take cuttings of for you. I imagine it would have to be latter in the season.
