Hi Lee Ann,

Asclepias sound good. I had one about 5 years ago that didn't
overwinter. I already have most of the mints, unless you have something
exotic. Shame you can't see my garden now, it's been looking really good
these last few weeks. But once the daisies are done in another week or
so it's going to look kind of yucky while the seeds are drying up. I'm
going to try to save a whole bunch--for a few other people too. Let me
know when you're heading south.

If you were nomail, you probably don't know that I lost a perfectly
healthy looking tree in our last little storm, that *fortunately* fell
away from the house, but put the fear of God into me. I got an estimate
on dropping five of my humungous house-threatening trees today. They
want $500/tree to drop them. That doesn't include cutting them up, other
than what they have to do to get it down without hitting the house.
David will have to do all the cutting up. A lot of the top sections will
have to be tied and lowered by rope they told me. These trees are very
big and it's going to be a difficult job, so I thought the price was very
fair. We agreed with them on which ones are most likely to fall on the
house--all other things being equal. They looked them over carefully and
one of them might even have a spot of rot starting at the base. I'm
going to get the two oaks (one red, one white) that lean over the house
the most cut now, so no bronze statues (my latest wish) for the garden
this year or next. With my luck, it will be one of the trees that don't
look as precarious that will fall in the next storm! Murphy's Law. They
probably won't be starting for another week or two, but I feel sorry
about it already. I decided I'm going to buy some (smaller--mature
height under 40') flowering replacements to make me feel better about it.

Yes, and one big company, who I have used it the past to remove deadwood,
wanted twice as much per tree. This is a local guy who has his own tree
service business--and has insurance.

Hi Karen
I hoope you got a couple of quotes for cutting those trees - we did last
year and there was a big difference in prices - and yes they both had
insurance.
