I have three apple trees and more apples than I can give away. Does anyone
know how to dry apples in the oven? Do I need to put lemon juice on them?
thanks!

Hi Edie, I have found that if you want the apples to stay nice and light you
dip them in lemon juice (some say in salted water with lemon added) for a
few minutes. If you don't care well, it matters very little although some
will go quite dark.
I haven't done it for years but have "recipes" somewhere. I dried apple
slices for decorating purposes over the years as well as for eating. (the
eating ones we strung and hung in the attic.
In the oven you want quite a time at a very low temperature or else you get
cooked apples. I think I turned it to 200 then set it back as far as I
could. They stayed there all night and then I flipped them and let the other
side dry. Don't let them touch metal, they will discolour. I lined pans with
parchment papers. Watch the pans as they collect heat. I am drying a couple
whole peeled apples to see can I come up with a nice enough face to make an
apple Old fashioned Santa type creature as a gift for Christmas. they are
set on dowels and shoved up into the attic in hopes I don't forget and have
them freeze before they dry. Must go mark a date on the calendar so I
remember to bring them down.
