Actually cats are a genuine threat to songbird populations and are not part
of "nature"...we've introduced them into the environment. Here's an article
on the Wisconsin Cooperative Extension site that has an overview of the
threat they pose to wildlife, including birds:

I can't say that I side with the hawks... but there's something pretty
thrilling about seeing them swoop in and take a bird from a feeder or in
mid-air.

I've also never felt terribly guilty about letting my cats outside, and
feeding birds at the same time. I've seen people express the opinion
that it borders on barbaric to lure the little birdies in, only to leave
them unprotected against the terrible kitties. (To be fair, only one of
my two cats is worth a damn at catching critters...).

It's just animals doing what comes natural. The small number of birds
that my cat manages to catch will not endanger most backyard species.
And I actually rejoice a bit when he thins the vole herd.

So I guess that makes me more predator-sided?
