The Apple Grower arrived in the mail last week and I plan to sit down with
several cups of tea and give it a good going over tonight. My skills at
growing apples organically should carry over to the rest of the garden,
right? I'm into chapter two and the book looks promising.

I have a copy of that book AND I got to meet Michael Phillips about 9
years ago when he gave a workshop on apple growing.
It's a really good book but it gave me the impression that in order to
grow clean apples one must become a part of the apple growing priesthood
and spend virtually every moment of life either working in the orchard
or thinking about apples.
It was that book that got me to give up on trying for perfect apples. I
found there are other things in life that are more important to me than
perfect apple from 7 apple trees I used to take care of.
