NEVER BUY A NOISY CACTUS: A True Story
In the second such incident in the Southwest, a San Diego woman purchased a
large cactus during the redecoration of her home. The huge cactus was a
fitting centerpiece for her new "Southwest" look, and she was quite happy
with her $3,000 purchase - for a while.
A few days later, she noticed that the big cactus seemed to be
swaying...and humming. Bewildered and not knowing where else to turn, she
dialed 9-1-1 and - fortunately for her - got an operator who knew what this
uncactuslike behavior meant. She was told to clear out of the house
immediately - like right now! - and wait for an emergency team.
The responding five man team had just enough time to move the huge cactus
into the back yard before it burst wide open, scattering about a thousand
tarantulas in all directions.
The nursery where she had purchased the cactus refunded her $3,000 and paid
for exterminator service for the entire block. When asked later how her
plants were, the lady replied, "Plastic and silk, thank you!"
The fashion of using cacti for home decoration is fairly new, but
Tarantulas have been using them for mass breeding farms for a long, long
time.
Sorry, Terry. It is an Urban Legend.

That's what I thought too but I couldn't remember the term 'urban legend'. =

Hi Jenny and all,
Jenny, do you have wasps that nest in the ground? We have yellow jackets
in most of the US that nest, among other places, in the ground. I found of
few of them weeding one day. When I pulled a weed near the wooden edge of
a bed I felt the ground vibrating; it took seconds to sink in but I was
moving before the first yellow jacket came out of the hole. I did get a
few stings but not as many as I would have if I hadn't moved.
I stuck a hose in their hole (from a safe distance) and flooded them out to
regain the bed.

It`s a good story though Terry.
Guess what happened to me this year , because it`s been a
summer with months without rain, wasps have been hiding in
droves inside my lettuce plants, probably to keep cool . It was
quite a shock the first time I started pulling the plant apart and all
these wasps started flying out, all the others are the same too so
it`s not a one off.

No Esther, not that I`ve seen them.
There is a perpetual war going on to keep them out of the
windows. They make a three teired parchment nest, it looks very
futuristic which they try to hang between the window and the
shutters This happens in rooms I don`t use so much. Then another
type make a multi cell round ball parchment nest, on the shutters,
on the walls but always high up.Wasps are bad , you can move
among bees and they won`t touch you but wasps get you for fun ,
probably because bees die if they sting you but wasps can go on
and get you again and again.
