does anyone grow daffodils?

Hi,

I would like to grow more daffodils and am trying to figure out what to
order. I am in New England and my soil is on the clay side. I think it is loamy
clay, as it doesn't crack when dry and I don't get puddles or standing water
after rains. I also have a ph of 6.4.

I called to ask which daffodils could be depended on to come back every year
and increase given my growing conditions and the bulb supplier seemed
reluctant to give me more than two names of cultivars..Ice Follies and Flower Record.

I thought I would ask if people on the list grow daffodils and if anyone is
successful in clay soil conditions like mine?

Thanks,
Adam

I have sandy soil here (NY) but most daffodils do well anywhere. I'd buy a
collection especially for naturallizing, White Flower Farm in CT has a nice one.

Hello,

Thank you Maryann for the response to my post. I will check out White Flower
Farm. I do enjoy their catalog, had forgotten they offer bulbs.

:-)

--=====================_345645437==.ALT Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed A good source for cheap daffodil bulbs is Costco, the large warehouse chain. In September they offer a huge bag of King Alfred daffodils (150 bulbs) for $15! Imagine the work trying to plant that many! I never bought any for that reason though I always contemplate grabbing a bag each fall. Alice At 07:20 AM 8/5/2005, you wrote: >Hello, > >Thank you Maryann for the response to my post. We bought one of those. DH got down on knees, turned on the drill, and =
it pulled him down, nose to ground. Haven't used it since. Margaret L

Thanks Alice for that tip. I will definitely check them out this year =

drill bit that is a planting auger and is less than $30. at HD or =
Lowe's. I am planning on getting one this year and make it easier.

Thanks,
Adam
