"Buffalograss, Buchloe dactyloides, is a perennial grass native to the Great
Plains from Montana to Mexico. In Texas, it is commonly found from South
Texas to the Texas Panhandle; but is rarely found on the sandy soils in the
eastern part of the state or in the high rainfall areas of southeast Texas.
It is one of the grasses that supported the great herds of buffalo that
roamed the Great Plains. Buffalograss also provided the sod from which early
settlers built their houses."

Plants of the Southwest carries seed and live plugs for buffalo grass. See
description at www.plantsofthesouthwest.com . I've heard two caveats about
planting it: it's late to green up and early to brown in summer, and some
people are allergic to it. Margaret L

After looking up some information on Buffalo Grass. I know there is a varie=
ty that will grow in Monroe, NC. Does anyone know which one?
It is not like we have sand in this area of our yard. It is heavy clay.
Oh and did I mention we are in stage 3 drought. Which means using water fro=
m the washers and showers to water trees etc.
