tobacco as an insecticide/

Seems to me I read here a year or more ago about the dangers of using
home made tobacco concoctions as insecticides. Yes, I know about the
mosaic virus.

I have also heard stories about how some of these tobacco solutions have
perked up plants that were in the doldrums. In fact, I think I've seen
that myself.

How about the caffeine (sp?) in the plants to make them grow. I worked with
a lady who pored her leftover coffee in her plant (can't remember what it
was) and the thing grew like a weed. Is it really good for some
houseplants?

Don't you think it might have been more of an acid factor rather than a
caffeine thang? I used to pour leftover coffee (diluted) on my azaleas --
they liked it, I think. At least it didn't seem to hurt them.
