new plants!/ allium

Hi Karen,
I tried two new ones this year in my garden as well. Favorite has to be
karataviense. Foliage is even more lovely than the blooms... which is
saying something. The leaves are about 8 inches long and quite broad. Each
leaf is glaucous and distinctly market along the edge in red. The large
ball of tiny blooms are rose-violet. It is summer dormant. The other is the
Blue of Heavens or A. azureum. Blooms are small, but if planted in bunches
it is lovely underplanted among Hardy Geraniums. The blue blooms on the end
of slender stems poking up through the geranium foliage and above pink
blooms is nice, I think.
