I don't know where you're at or what kind of ivy you have...but holes in ivy are
usually due to: slugs, earwigs or other beetles, or caterpillars. Is the
damage occurring during the night, or sometime during the day?

According to several different webpages, English ivy and its kin aren't bothered
by much other than aphids and spider mites...but ivies can sometimes be bothered
by slugs and/or earwigs...who like to shelter in their daytime shade. They
might take a few bites out of the homeground shelter.
