I DO understand....I used to have cats before I married an allergic husband
and had an allergic daughter...now I am part-time mom to a Cairn terrier,
and she is my baby, too.

But Chakotay IS my son. Ok, he has four legs and a tail but he is still
my baby.
Hi Deborah. I'm also allergic to cats and have asthma, but after 47 years
of staying away from them, I found a way to neutralize my allergies to them,
now we have 3 indoor cats, and not a sneeze or wheeze do I have! If you
ever decide you want to try my fix, let me know. I never thought I'd be
able to have cats and now I can't imagine my life without them. Also, my
husband who was never an animal lover to begin with, is the biggest woos
(spelling is obviously butchered) in the world over these cats!
Merry Christmas, Linda

Will be glad to share the info - but it will have to wait until after
Christmas. I've got my whole family coming in the morning and I just now
took my turkey out of the oven! Got lots to do before I can go to bed.
I'll save this message in my Inbox and get back with you in a couple of
days.
Merry Christmas.

Hi Linda,
I'd like to know your remedy for cat allergies. We have one cat named Sophie
and I could not imagine giving her up but I think she is the main reason why I
keep sneezing and have sinus problems. If that's the cause, I'll just suffer
because there is no way I'm giving her up.

Hi Shannon. Coincidently, our middle cat is also named Sophie and like you,
rather than give them up, I would have just lived with the allergy/asthma.
I know that a lot of people think that's crazy, but once they get into your
heart, they're part of the family and I can't imagine giving up a family
member. Since I've already answered - personally - two other requests, I'm
just copying what I wrote to them so as to save time and in case there are
others that want to know what I've (we - my husband and I) did to make it
possible to keep the cats. The pictures that I mention at the end of this
note I'll send to you personally since this is a newsgroup - or list, or
whatever. If anyone else is interested in seeing them, let me know and I'll
send them separately also.

My wife is allergic to cats. In fact, she even insisted that I give away
my young Burmese cat before I married her 12 years ago. She didn't like
cats, either. In the last 6 or 8 years, she's had operations to clean out
her sinuses twice.
When I found two abandoned week-old kittens in the backyard, the
mothering instinct came to the fore. Four years later, my wife gets shots
for her allergy problem and Einstein and Oreo (strictly indoor) are two
important members of our household.

Has anyone tried Allerpet for cats? It is supposed to control the dander
on the coat, which is some cases is the cause of the allergies.
I saw it as a spray in the pet store.

I haven't, but I'm assuming that it's similar to the "Off" ---- or it may
have been "Out" that we used on our cats. We no longer have to use the
spray so I've forgotten the name. In my posting I think I called it "Off"
but now I'm thinking it really is "Out". Sorry all!.

Yay for you Tom........and your wife for giving it a second try!! I'm sure
she's in complete agreement that it was/is worth it. They just capture your
heart, don't they?
