Hi George and all

I need help too!
What to do with my big (1,5 m = ~5 foot?) plant of Brugmansia from last year?

It has survived very well in my basement and have a lot of green leaves in
the topshoots - very compact growth lately - but have lost all the old
leave further down.

questions:
1. Would you cut it down or not?
2. How much do I cut back? to under or with any old leaves?
3. When do I cut it down - now?
4. Cuttings - how long is optimal? Any plastic over no to dry out?
5. Rooting cuttings in 'warm place'? - will basement's +18*C (~65 *F) be
enough?
6. Will cuttings without leaves do well too or better than with leaves?

TY if anyone can answer me
:) Arnhild

I'm no expert on Brugmansia Arnhild but all the old ones growing around
here only have leaves on top. These all look like 7 or 8 foot trees with
multiple brances but only have leaves at the tip. This may be the way
they grow. My cuttings, which are about 2 feet tall now are growing the
same way, the bottom leaves fell off as the top leaves grew in.

I've never seen a "pretty" brugmansia around here. They're all spindly
trees with tufts of leaves on them but with huge trumpet flowers hanging
down.
A friend cuts hers back to keep them small and gave me the cuttings. Far
as I know the mother plant is still growing in a big pot.

Yes, they're in my greenhouse in one gallon pots. Minimal fertilizer,
water when dry, and keep at 40F or above.

Arnhild - that really do not know what to do with my Brugmansia now!

Hi Arnhild

Seems to me when I overwintered mine it lost most of its bottom leaves, =
and actually, it tends to loose them during the summer outside too. =
Believe I took cuttings and started new plants and the old plant sprouted =
new leaves after I removed the cuttings. Worth a try. Unfortunately, I =
did not have space this year to overwinter any :-(.
