Many of the common "houseplant fertilizers" have a colored tracking dye
that causes problems for many ferns. Try uncolored fertilizer, or fish
emulsion.

I too have killed a large number of seemingly indestructible (for everyone
else) ferns. A friend recently gave me one however that he potted in leaf
litter alone. No soil of any kind. I have to water it every day, but it is
doing magnificently. I am totally stunned. When you repot your baby try
using leaf litter as the potting medium.
