I've been enjoying the discussion on Aloe vera. This is, along with the
jade plant, one of the most commonly grown succulents. Let's do a trivia
question.

What is the region of origin of the Aloe vera plant?

A. West Africa
B. South Africa
C. India
D. Mexico
E. Canary Islands
F. The region of origin is unknown

I'll let this be my guess.
I'm wavering between west and south Africa, as there are some references of
it being used in Biblical times.
Dunno. Just a guess.

Ha, I thought I would be smart and look this one up in my book. The dumb
book doesn't say a thing about origin, tells a lot of other things but not
origin. I will have to guess Mexico from what I have heard before. Jane

I know this is wrong, but I've seen drawing of a plant that
looks like Aloe Vera in drawings of the Aztecs in Mexico.
Could it be?

Likely origin of aloe vera (A. barbadensis) is Arabia or northern
Africa. Cleopatra is said to have used the plant as part of her beauty
regimen.
Aloe in general grows wild in Madagascar, Africa and the Arabian
Peninsula. ``The aloe of traditional medicines comes from a shrubby
African species,'' according to Botanica. It is a member of the
Liliaceae family, unlike agave, which has its own Agavaceae family, but
is sometimes confused with aloe.

Probably "F", unknown. But I know they grow all over South Africa.
